Supported project in port logistics

Port logistics deals with topics regarding the improvement of logistics in a port environment, going from security efficiency to development of networks, passing by the upgrading of infrastructures and distribution systems. IoT system development for Mobility,   Partner: Aiara Soluciones (Spain). Aiara is a technology-based start-up, whose principal activity is the development of products and solutions in the mobility field, which are based on new disruptive technologies.
These new technologies are categorized within the Internet of Things on the level of sensorics which apply self-learning and adaptive systems. Aiara Soluciones proposes a differential solution for the Transport Industry Sector, specifically maritime port installations, which are adapted to the current market needs, current legal requirements and functionalities, and are intended for better management and monitoring of vehicular traffic, cargo and parking spaces. This would be made possible through the development of a data-capturing device using IoT system and which would be capable to accommodate different sensors. This sensoric device will allow the capture of huge quantities of data which would enable better and improved mobility management, aside from the new communications systems which would simplify its deployment.

Ports are very singular working environments. These infrastructures combine several characteristics that are typical in “urban environments”, “protected environments” and “manufacturing environments”. This complexity and the size of the facility lead to situations such as: (I) difficulty to control that the right person is in the right place, (II) a higher degree of unfulfilment of PPEs policies than in other industrial environments, and (III) difficulty to find people even to identify possible accidents.

UBIQO aims to focus on providing location information about the position of a user, assuring that this user has been provided with the right PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and that there has not been identity replacement. And this information will be ready to provide different and customized types of access to the different supervising entities involved in the process.

The main objective of UBIQO is to develop and demonstrate an innovative system to improve the security and safety in a port infrastructure. UBIQO combines four technological assets: (I) RFID, (II) Face Recognition, (III) Mobile app with location information and (IV) customizable raster and vector geographical information systems. Our approach envisions the deployment of these technologies to support an unattended portico and mobile services.

ISMAAS Partners: Arctic Sea, Bizintek, Geograma & Vicomtech (Spain)

ISMASS project is focused on port logistics, in particular on security and efficiency in handling of biomass and other bulk materials. It provides a unique system that tackles two problems related to humidity and temperature and stock control.

Biomass and cereal facilities in ports need controlling temperature and relative humidity of stocks in order to prevent molds and fermentation, which will reduce quality and may cause fire. When certain values are reached, the stock has to be moved in order to aerate it.

Silos allow the installation of wired systems for controlling both temperature and humidity, but bulk storage in sheds in which cargo is coming in and out frequently and aerated with machinery needs a different approach. Nowadays multi-purpose sheds are a convenient solution as they bring more flexibility to the ports.

The stock of the bulks is mainly driven by the information provided by the truck balance. However, there are several problems due to changes of density of the product (i.e. loss of humidity) and fails in the operations (i.e. there are prime materials of different quality and price stored in bulks that are next to each other). These problems lead to situations where the theoretic stock does not fit the real one, causing important economic and managing problems to the owner of the shed and their clients. The solution will be based on a SW interface built by Geograma, that in a virtual reconstruction of the bulk providing information captured by two sensors: volumetric stock capturer and temperature and humidity sensor. The objective is to offer a modular solution to the market.

The temperature and humidity will be gathered by a wireless Bluetooth datalogger developed by Bizintek. Information will be uploaded to the cloud whenever data is read and alarms will be triggered if limits are breached. It will be based in the Coollogger Red device (Bluetooth temperature sensor), already in the market, enhanced with the Bluetooth 5.0 (allowing much longer range that current 4.0 version), an external probe and a Relative Humidity sensor. The volume of the stock will be got from a laser 3d sensor installed in the bridge grain. Geograma, with the support of the technological center Vicomtech will generate a 3D reconstruction software. This software will employ the information provided by a laser scan that will be installed in the bridge grain. As the grain passes over the bulk, it will be scanned and reconstructed.

CHANNEL 5 Partner: Marseille Gyptis Innovation (France)

The Channel 5 project intends to transform Ports into Smart Ports. Its main aim is to develop a decision support system to improve the robustness and resilience of supply chains in and around ports. The new technology collects and combines data having an impact on freight traffic and integrates them into an Artificial Intelligence component developed by CEA Tech and taking into account business rules. Ports can then evaluate if the activity is under control or disturbed and which actor is affected. Channel 5 recommends then alternatives to the concerned actors in order to better manage these risks.

RFIDrone Partners: Drone by Drone and Stockare RFID solutions (Spain)

The project aims to solve port logistics problems by the combination of RFID and Drone technologies applied together by creating a new product and solution that will be beneficial to monitor the cargos and containers in large areas and warehouses. The new tool to be developed will allow logistics processes at ports to be more efficient and be carried out at lower cost and with lower pollutant emissions. Information from both technologies, drone and RFID, can be combined to accurately display the read items by the RFID system and locate them into the tracking map generated by the drone flight pattern. As the benefits of the project, it will have a great impact in the accuracy of large inventories and its management, avoiding human errors and saving time
