Autonomous cars are the great hope of individual (quasi) transportation. We are about to see in the market the first completely independent vehicles, smarter and more efficient than any driver. In this, the IoT plays a fundamental role. Which one exactly? For example, in the first place, the use of the Internet of Things in an autonomous vehicle allows to fully adapt driving: speed, routes, forecasts ... automatically and thanks to the information received from other devices, vehicles and other external means of information.
This translates into optimization of transport fleets or greater traffic flow. Of course, this also means a reduction in energy expenditure and environmental impact. The direct application of IoT in the design of cars can allow the use of gas emission control systems that facilitate the organization to create cleaner cities. They would also provide services that help the management of collaborative economies in terms of driving, something that is gaining strength in society. We are still beginning to visualize some of the applications but we are sure that the coming decade will see a real revolution in driving. And it will largely be due to the Internet of Things.
