Towards the receptive city

Smart cities or "Smart City" are a thing of the past. The ‘receptive’ (responsive city) cities have arrived. The receptive city puts the citizen at the center of the action and not the “observation”. Thus, people begin to take an active role, contributing to the design of their municipalities and participating in decision making.

Mobility

With a constantly growing number of people, transport infrastructure is limited to meet the needs for space and money. That is when the concepts and mobility implementation appear. When the means of transport do not conform to what we are looking for we can use some of the existing means of collaborative transport. There are also autonomous media and a myriad of possibilities. For all these modalities there is the possibility of using services specially dedicated to mobility. These services may consist of route management applications on a map, with real-time data; o services to share transportation; also to manage other aspects during it. And in all these questions there is always the same characteristic that unites them: the Internet of Things.

The advance of an ecosystem where the connection between users and objects is becoming a tangible reality is the scenario that mobility as a service needed. Imagine we have to get to the airport. Thanks to several applications, today, we can plan the most efficient route in our car. If there is any change due to traffic jams or any other problem, we will receive a real-time update warning that we should take another path. What if we use public transportation? Several services will give us a very accurate estimate of how long it will take to arrive taking into account all kinds of information: commutations, the arrival of the subway at a certain stop or how long it takes to reach the station on foot.

Do we need to buy a ticket? No problem, we can do it on the way, with just two or three touches on our mobile. And in the meantime, we are reviewing the latest news or notifying people of interest about our situation. And all thanks to IoT. All of the above, mobility as a service and other associated utilities would be completely impossible if it were not for the Internet of Things. Both the interconnection provided by the technological context and the development of software, through interoperability, the Internet of Things is the indispensable tool to make the experience something real.
